Corridors To Learning Displays at St Peter's
Our love for all things reading....
Our curriculum became book-led in September 2018. We understand how important reading is for the development of all pupils but even more vital for our pupils who come from disadvantaged backgrounds with little exposure to high-level language and lack of parental engagement in reading at home which in turn not only effects their reading, writing, spelling skills but also social and emotional development as they progress through school.
Alongside this heavy investment in books that were mapped to each topic alongside sister supporting books we wanted to explore expanding these topics to outsaide of the classroom and to showcase and celebrate how reading can bring any topic to life. In September 2019, we lead a whole school intitiativw which was to focus on each class having their own book-led display. This displays had to bring the books and topics to life, they had to display key vocabulary, ensure they were visual and eye-catching alongside providing spaces for pupils to read a selection of sister books also related to their topic. We also hoped the displays would motive staff even further and create an element of friendtly compretition for the best display.
To date, almost 2 years on, we are extremely proud of the fantastic work our staff and pupils have put into the displays and we are blown away by the positive responses they have had from pupils such as, "It makes our topics exciting from the start and I love to see my work on there," Fatima Y5. The spaces have continued to be used as reading areas and places pupils have felt confident to read to one another and have constructive conversations about what they have read, like or dislike to read.
THESE REALLY HAVE BROUGHT READING ALIVE HERE AT ST PETER'S
