Music

INTENT: The curriculum develops skills in performing, composing and listening. Pupils work collaboratively, express ideas creatively and learn key musical elements such as pitch, rhythm, tempo and dynamics. Oracy is central, enabling pupils to discuss and evaluate music using accurate vocabulary. Learning is carefully sequenced to ensure progression.
IMPLEMENTATION: Music is taught through a progressive curriculum supported by Charanga and delivered by a specialist music teacher. The scheme ensures full National Curriculum coverage through engaging, practical lessons. Pupils develop skills in singing, instrumental work, listening, improvisation, composition and performance. They regularly perform and share their work. Oracy underpins learning, with pupils using musical vocabulary to explain and evaluate music. Adaptive teaching and differentiation ensure all pupils are supported and challenged. Assessment is ongoing and informs teaching.
IMPACT: Pupils develop secure musical knowledge and skills through performing, composing, listening and discussion. They make good progress and become more confident and independent. By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils are confident musicians with a strong foundation in performance, composition and appreciation of music.
