PSHE and RSE

Character-animation-1-1024x576

INTENT:  At St Peter’s, our PSHE and RSE curriculum develops the knowledge, skills and understanding pupils need to lead safe, healthy and fulfilling lives. From the Early Years, children build self-awareness, emotional regulation and positive relationships. The curriculum promotes mental health, wellbeing and an understanding of the wider world. Pupils become respectful, resilient individuals who can make informed choices. Oracy is prioritised so pupils can discuss, reflect and express their ideas clearly. Knowledge and skills are sequenced to ensure progression.

IMPLEMENTATION:  PSHE and RSE are taught through a progressive curriculum supported by the myHappymind Plus programme, an NHS-backed approach aligned with UK guidance. It covers Relationships Education, Health and Wellbeing and Living in the Wider World. The programme includes four strands—myHappymind, myHappybody, myHappyrelationships and myHappyworld—alongside the core modules: Meet Your Brain, Celebrate, Appreciate, Relate and Engage, which develop understanding of emotions, relationships and resilience. Daily check-ins support emotional awareness and wellbeing. Lessons are discussion-based, promoting oracy and engagement. Learning builds on prior knowledge, with retrieval supporting retention. Adaptive teaching ensures all pupils are supported and challenged. Assessment is ongoing through observation and discussion, enabling teachers to identify understanding and inform teaching.

IMPACT:  Pupils demonstrate secure understanding across PSHE and RSE and can discuss their thoughts confidently and respectfully. They understand how to stay safe, build positive relationships and make informed choices. Assessment shows good progress from starting points, supported by strong emotional awareness and resilience. By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils are confident, reflective and well prepared for life in modern society.
